LeoNora Cohen is the author of at least 26 children’s books; all simply written in both English and Spanish. All of LeoNora’s books are directed at certain age groups, teaching them life lessons about the many choices young children are given throughout their formative years. Youngsters ages 4-7 are shown the choices of many various careers through Nora’s Magic Boots series. Other books concentrate on overcoming physical handicaps such as hearing impairments, sight and mobile disabilities. Still, other books concentrate on dealing with poverty in the campo and appreciating the goodwill of others. Other books talk about the migration problems we are experiencing. In the next post, we will list each book and describe the content.
Our concept is simple: Nora’s goal is to introduce her books to every classroom in rural Mexico where there are children eager to learn about opportunities, develop aspirations as well as another language.
The Mexican government has given each Primary school a directive: Teach the children another language. Nora’s books are all short bilingual stories, illustrated by young local artists. Our goal is to supply each class room with enough books for every student to read along with their teacher.
Nora has purchased all the equipment needed to self publish each book…thereby facilitating instant availability to every school in Guanajuato State. Nora’s dream is simple: The campo schools have very small budgets; most of the students come from low income families; keeping the children fed and well dressed becomes a major part of every family’s budget. Things like libraries, the Internet, gardens, clean drinking water and bilingual teaching supplies are extraordinary additions to the budget. Keeping the costs down or having these extra supplies donated becomes imperative.
Nora’s plan includes donating her books to campo schools via benefactors throughout San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and the US.
